Project Five:
Corporate
Building Perennial Design & Garden Art Display
Montville, NJ
Award
Winner
The
utilitarian and bland look of the gray cinder block building was very
unattractive and gave the building the appearance of a warehouse versus an
office building. The original
landscape was comprised mainly of overgrown evergreens such as junipers,
arborvitaes and pines. The clients wanted several primary objectives
achieved via this landscape renovation.
Firstly, they wanted to create a buffer between their building and
neighboring Highway 287. The
sound and view of the highway proved unappealing and disruptive and needed
to be blocked from both an aesthetic and functional standpoint.
To overcome the shortcomings of the buildings’ cinder block façade
a complete landscape renovation was necessary to add season long color and
multi-dimensional texture. Moreover,
since many of client's customers visit the administrative offices it was
imperative that the landscape not only be attractive but intriguing
as well. Green Earth designers
would accomplish this via the following methods:
-
Ground
moving projects (i.e., berms, moss rock)
-
Mass
perennial swaths that would attract butterflies and hummingbirds as
well as complement the newly installed trees and shrub material (i.e.,
river birches, magnolias, bamboo, etc.)
-
Integration
of garden art sculptures that would serve as key focal points in
various garden areas
-
Annual
displays via pots, urns and gardens to provide seasonal color
-
Themed
garden displays to generate roadside impact
